Prepaid phone users in the UK will soon embrace the high speed 4G services from Vodafone and O2. Both launched their next generation wireless Internet network a few days ago. This could be a tipping point for subscribers of these carriers, because they have numerous options that support significant number of devices. Business with ubiquitous access to reliable data access could also benefit from a clear timeline.
O2’s LTE network will be available initially in Bradford, Leeds and London. Vodafone initially starts the service in London only. Carriers promised that subscribers will not be affected by “slow burn”, which occurred when they introduced 3G network about ten years ago. It happened when network carriers struggled to recoup spectrum licenses.
With the new 4G LTE network, users should be able to download full-length movies within minutes. Carriers are also confident that they will see significantly better adoption curve than with 3G networks.
