Originally announced back in August for the UK market, HTC finally sells the prepaid Desire 500 and once again, Carphone Warehouse gets the first opportunity to sell a new device. The standard, black HTC Desire 500 will soon be available from other retailers, but the white version is exclusive only for the Carphone Warehouse.
The HTC Desire 500 sports 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor, 1GB of system memory, 4.3-inch WVGA display, 4GB of internal storage and support for up to 64GB of microSD card. The processor may not be as capable as the high-end Snapdragon 800, but it should allow for smooth gaming on the move, responsive web browsing and high-speed multitasking.
The 8Mp rear-facing camera is backed up by the dedicated ImageChip processor for improved photography performance. The 1.6Mp front-facing camera is usable to take decent self-portraits. The camera app includes smile and face recognition feature as well as a variety of filters. Other photography-related app is the Video Highlights, which compiles a 30-second reel from a collection of photos and videos.
As expected, the phone includes the HTC Sense UI and BlinkFeed app. A quick glance over the retailer’s price tag shows that the Desire 500 is priced quite reasonably at £180.
